Frankfort receives funds for community park renovation

A grant from the State of Illinois for Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) for the amount of $174,000 has been awarded to the city of Frankfort for the development of Windy Hill Park.

The park is east of Pfeiffer Road, along Old Plank Road. The grant from OSLAD is a matching grant, with the Frankfort Park District contributing the same amount to the funding of the project. Banner printing is often used to announce the awarding of such grants to the community.

State Senator Michael E. Hastings has been an advocate for assistance from the state to improve the city’s parks. In a statement, he said that this will help to improve the lives of residents of the city, adding that parks encourage vibrant and healthy communities that create economic growth.

Gina Hassett from the Frankfort Parks District said that the plan for the park is to add amenities that are more based on nature, and some playground equipment. Hassett said that the grant funding will also enable the Parks District to include some items that would not otherwise have been possible due to budget constraints. She expressed her excitement in seeing these improvements being made to community parks as such projects help boost the economy.

Bidding for the project is scheduled to begin this fall, with construction potentially beginning next year.
