Frankfort holds walk and run to celebrate summer solstice

The Short Run on a Long Day will be held for the 19th consecutive year by the Frankfort Park District.

The course is a United States Track and Field Certified route that is five kilometers (3.1 miles) in length and traverses the Old Plank Trail and several streets in Frankfort. Each person who takes part in the race will be given a disposable timing chip and the results will be posted on the town’s website. Poster printing can also be used to post such results throughout the community, so people become aware of others’ accomplishments.

There will be awards given to the top overall female and male runners and the top finishers in each age division by male and female. The awards will be given after the race. Participants in the walk/run will be able to partake of water, pasta and pizza, and healthy snacks, and guests will be entertained by a DJ and music.

There is a need for volunteers to help with registration at the race, street closures, and the activities after the race.

The walk and run will be held on Wednesday, June 19 beginning at 7:00 pm at Main Park. The cost to register for the walk and run is $20 if done so by Monday June 17, and then the price rises to $30 after June 17.
