There are two events taking place in Evanston this month that are aimed at bringing the community together.
The first event will be the Community Picnic to be held on August 21 at Ingraham Park from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. It is set to feature free food, plenty of giveaways, and games for people of all ages. Organizers are still looking for sponsors and volunteers for the event, which is hosted by the City of Evanston. Call 847-448-8029 to find out about becoming a volunteer.
Next will be the inaugural Fifth Ward Festival on August 27 at Twiggs Park from 12:00 to 8:00 PM, presented by Dear Evanston. The festival will consist of information booths from a number of local organizations such as those involved in mental healthcare, voter registration, and job training. Police and firefighters will also be on hand to inform the public about their latest efforts. Local vendors will also be selling merchandise, and musical entertainment will be provided by the Manwolves and Kweku Collins, among others.
For the Fifth Ward Festival, the distributed flyer was donated by and graphic design was handled by Evanston resident Jessica Kaplan. To learn more about this event and the organizations that will be taking part, visit the Dear Evanston Facebook page.
Both events should attract a large number of residents, and help to educate the community.
