Talking trash in Evanston

Twice a year, Evanston provides up to six cubic yards of free bulk trash pickup up, and it has recently been announced when those pickup are scheduled to take place.

The Evanston Streets and Sanitation Division will provide their usual spring bulk pickup on specific Fridays, which will be dependent on when a resident's normal trash pickup is scheduled. Customer need to note, however, that certain criteria must be met. Ensuring that residents understand what is permissible could be expedited by the services of local brochure printers.

Only items in the parkway or on the alley line will be collected and items must be neatly placed, since collectors will not enter private property or pick up loose garbage. Items that will not be collected include construction materials, tires, electronics, and appliances, in addition to hazardous waste items like gas, asbestos, paint, medical waste, oil, and batteries.

To help residents understand what constitutes the six cubic yard limit, the city gave the examples of 25 medium garbage Bags, a mattress and box spring set, four chairs, or two couches.

Bulk trash pickup begins on April 17 for those residents whose normal pickup day is on Wednesday. The extra trash pickup proceeds for the Thursday and Monday trash customers who will have bulk pickup on April 24 and 30 respectively. Spring bulk trash collection ends with the Tuesday pickup customers and a May 8 bulk pickup.
