The Giving Foundation, which raises funds and awareness for Langerhan’s Cell Histiocytosis, will be hosting its annual fundraiser here in Evanston next month.
Syd Rocks was founded by 18-year old Syd Martin, and each year holds a fundraiser here in Evanston. Martin has received therapy for Langerhan’s Cell histiocytosis, which is a potentially fatal condition that primarily impacts those under 10 years of age.
Martin’s Wilmette-based foundation raises money in a variety of ways. In addition to Syd Rocks Live 2015, money is also being raised via community activities, the sale of signature necklaces, foundation sponsorships, and other fundraising events.
Last year’s Syd Rocks Live concert raised over $50,000 and was attended by 500 people. Since its inceptions, in excess of $350,000 has been raised to fund medical research and assist those afflicted with histiocytosis, hematological diseases and pediatric cancer. Monies are donated to the Histio Cure Foundation, the Histiocytosis Association of America, SuperSibs, and the Children’s Memorial Research Center.
To raise awareness about these conditions, and the work being done to fight them, charitable foundations often set aside a portion of their funds to be engage brochure printers to assist them in educating the public.
Syd Rocks Live 2015, three hours of music supplied by local bands, food, drink and necklace making, takes place from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on September 12. Admission is $40 for adults and $10 students, and all ages are welcome.
