Evanston is preparing for a summer shopping party that will also give its residents an opportunity to release their inner artist.

The city’s downtown has set the date for its Sidewalk Sale and Chalk Art Contest, and it will be running for three days. At least 25 establishments have signed on, and the Saturday will include a chance to see chalk artists at work.

The function will see the participating shops set up sales areas out on the sidewalk, and there will be lots of bargains to be had. Along with the chance to view the chalk art, the Saturday will boast live jazz music courtesy of local youth musicians. Everyone is encouraged to explore the district's eateries and treat themselves to lunch, and self-parking will be available at Sherman Plaza Self Park. The area can also be reached by public transit.
