Thanks to an upcoming workshop, Evanston residents will be able to hit the ground running when they bring home a new green member of the family.

The care and culture of houseplants may be a lot easier than many might think, and a learning session planned by Cultivate Urban Rainforest and Gallery will help point the way. It will offer simple tips and advice, and tickets are $25 each.

The function, which will follow a lecture format, will introduce topics such as the basics of watering, feeding, and siting a new houseplant. The importance of humidity and choosing the right variety for a particular room will be reviewed as well. The attendees will find out how to spot problems so they can be remedied before they get worse, and everyone who comes out will receive a coupon they will be able to use for a 15% discount on site on the day of the session. The learners are welcome to bring along a bottle of wine or other beverage to enjoy
