Evanston area event to feature fabulous fungi
The cool, wet days of fall are prime growing conditions for many species of fungi, and an Evanston area show and sale is set to attract both amateur and professional mycologists.
The Illinois Mycological Association engages in an assortment of activities throughout the year, and one of its most popular is its annual Mushroom Show and Sale. It may be of special interest to those who forage for wild food, and everyone is welcome to stop by and check it out for themselves.
The plans for the day include a display of up to 100 varieties of fungi that have been collected from local forests, and members of the organization will be on hand to share their knowledge and offer ID tips. A special area will be set up for the kids to help spark an interest in learning about the world around them, and everyone will have a chance to discover why these organisms are so important.
The attendees at the function who would like to purchase a souvenir of the occasion will be able to do so in the pop-up market. Posters, books, and even tee shirts that feature a mycology-themed graphic design will be available for purchase.
The 2021 Illinois Mycological Association Mushroom Show and Sale will be putting the “fun” in fungi on September 5. Space for the function has been provided by the Chicago Botanic Garden.
