Date set for Evanstons day of compassion

The United Way in Evanston is asking community members to step up and make the upcoming Day of Caring a success.

Residents of Evanston are encouraged to volunteer their time with one of the city’s many community organizations during the second annual United Way Evanston Day of Caring event. There is something for everyone and all ages can participate. Last year, in excess of 200 volunteers signed up to make a difference in their community.

This is a good opportunity for residents to familiarize themselves with local nonprofits. Also, organizations can use a local Print company to provide them with extra literature to offer to the volunteers.

The United Way has set a goal this year of distributing 300 volunteers among 22 volunteer sites on the Day of Caring, September 19. The full project list can be seen at VolunteerEvanston.org, which is where volunteers can also register.

A free goodie bag, containing a T-shirt, water bottle, and other small items, will be available for each volunteer. Bags can be picked up from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on September 16 at the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, Room 4802.

A post event celebration will be held from noon – 2:00 pm, with free refreshments at Northwestern University’s Ryan Field on the Walker Terrace. When registering, volunteers will need to RSVP for the celebration afterwards.
