Court the Cure raises $18,000 for cancer research

Court the Cure, an annual fundraiser hosted by the North Shore Women’s Platform Tennis League (NSWPTL), took place on September 24.

The 19th Court for the Cure found 230 paddle players taking part in matches played at 15 locations across the North Shore. One of the Court for the Cure locations was, appropriately enough, Evanston Golf Course.

NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) is headquartered in Evanston and serves the Chicago area. It is a fully integrated, comprehensive healthcare delivery system that includes four hospitals, one of which is Evanston Hospital. The other NorthShore hospitals are located in Skokie, Highland Park, and Glenview.

The $18,000 raised by players and sponsors was earmarked for NorthShore University HealthSystem’s leading-edge breast cancer research, which is led by NorthShore’s Director of the Breast Surgical Program, Dr. Katharine Yao. The money will be used to assist in a 3D modeling project to permit early detection of lymphedema in patients with breast cancer.

Fundraising for medical research takes on many Forms and include a variety of fundraising events, some of which, like this one, involve sponsors. Direct Mail printing is sometimes used either to directly solicit donations or to attain company sponsorship for events.

The Court for the Cure has, over the last 19 years, raised for NorthShore’s leading-edge breast cancer research over $165,000.
