Week of art to come to Meridian

Meridian Art Week will be celebrated next week to highlight the important role art plays in making the city vibrant.

Presented by the Meridian Arts Commission and the Meridian Parks and Recreation Department, Meridian Art Week features a wide range of low-cost or free activities in isuavl arts, performance, music, and literature for residents. Among the activities will be an Art Drop; classes on watercolors, writing, and line dancing; a Chalk Art Competition; and a special exhibit at the Initial Point Gallery.

The Community Art Party will be the highlight of the week and will be on the last day. This will be at the Kleiner Park Bandshell from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and is open to people of all ages. Free to attend, it aims to connect the public with various art organizations in the city and celebrates the local art community. Featured will be interactive displays and booths; a live community mural painting activity; art installations; a literary space highlighting reading, storytelling, poetry, and writing; and live performance by such groups as the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Idaho Fine Arts Academy Dance, Capital City Sound, and Andrew Nemr, an international tap dance artist. Such special citywide events are often promoted with poster printing.

Meridian Art Week runs from this Sunday, September 8 through Saturday, September 14 and coincides with National Art in Education Week.
