The ground has been broken on the new Meridian Community Center.
This building, which spans 26,000 square feet, is more than six times the size of its predecessor. It is on a parcel of land that is 11 acres in size west of the ball fields at Settler’s Park. The city purchased this land in 2024 from the West Ada School District and will be used to expand the park. Such sites can benefit from banner printing to inform residents of such upcoming projects.
The community center will have classrooms and meeting spaces, a gymnasium with a small stage, a fitness center, and a Meridian Fire Outreach Center, which will focus on education on fire and other Forms of safety education. Carly Shears, the community risk reduction division manager for the Meridian Fire Department, said that this offer hands-on education for the public, ranging from car seat safety, use of fire extinguishers, and emergency preparedness to AED and CPR training.
The project will also include new features to the park such as a playground, green space, and a dog park that will be fenced in. Over 340 new parking spaces will also be provided. A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of North Venable Avenue and West Ustick Road to improve traffic flow and overall safety.
This project is scheduled to be finished by late next year or early 2028.
