Telecommunications company to open in Meridian

TDS Fiber, a telecommunications company based in Wisconsin, will be building a new fiber-to-the-home network in Meridian. The company plans to invest $80 to $100 million in this high-speed network which will offer Voice Over IP Service and over 100 channels to more than 57,000 homes and businesses.

Mike Wanta, a spokesperson for TDS, said that construction on the network will begin this spring. He added that the investment will enable TDS to become a major provider of telecommunications services in the Meridian area. The project is expected to take two to three years to completely build out the area and will create many jobs in the community, many of which are in technical services and sales and often require business card printing services. Wanta said that as the project continues to Garden City and parts of unincorporated Ada County additional jobs are anticipated to develop.

Home customers will be able purchase services for 300 Megabits per second (Mpbs), 600 Mpbs, and 1 Gigabyte at affordable prices. Bundles will also be available so that customers can take advantage of high definition digital voice and video entertainment services. Businesses will be able to purchase rates up to 10 gigabytes.

It is expected that the first customers will be hooked up to the network in the fall will be those in Garden City followed by Meridian in late 2020.
