Three new murals have been unveiled in Meridian, one of which is at the pool and the other two at Tully Skatepark.
To celebrate the 50th summer of the Meridian Pool, the Meridian Arts Commission, Sector Seventeen, and West Ada Recreational District collaborated on the new mural, which features children swimming and will no doubt be enjoyed by local art and graphic design fans. Shaun Wardle, Board President of the Western Ada Recreation District, said this mural will be a showcase for patrons, both new and returning. Wardle added that the mural highlights the aquatic opportunities that have been made available to children over the past 49 years.
Tully Skatepark commissioned Miguel Almeida to create one of the murals. Almeida is a local public artist and has been skateboarding for 17 years. Almeida said that the images on the mural were inspired by ones from Mexico. He added that he likes to draw snakes and blend them into skateboarding graphics.
The other piece is by Macy Ratzesberger, a senior at the Idaho Fine Arts Academy, who was selected through a Call for Youth Apprentice Mural Artists. Ratzesberger was mentored by Almeida while working on the mural.
Cassandra Schiffler, Arts and Culture Coordinator for Meridian, said these murals create a contemporary and unique sense of place in the community, and bring vibrancy to the city’s public spaces.
