Meridian seeks youth participation in city boards

Youth who are interested in serving on a variety of city boards and commissions and want to make an impact in their community are being sought by the city of Meridian.

Those who are selected to serve will have terms of one year and will need to attend the meetings of the commission to which they are assigned, and other activities or meetings as required. Poster printing may be used as a technique to advertise such openings throughout a city.

Those who are interested in applying for these positions need to live in the city or the area which is impacted by the relevant board or commission, and be in grades 9 through 12. City chiefs feel that a unique perspective on the topics is often provided by youth serving on such boards and commissions. Youth also serve as a liaison between the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) and their boards and commissions. The MYAC may ask youth to give reports with informational updates and may provide feedback to the youth.

The commissions which are accepting applications include Transportation, Historic Preservation, Solid Waste Advisory, Parks and Recreation, and Meridian Arts. The application and information about these commissions can be found on the Meridian city website.

Applications are due to the mayor at city hall by close of business on Friday, August 9.
