Meridian plans new library

The next branch of Meridian’s public library will be in the development at Orchard Park. This development will include office, retail, and residential space as well as the library.

The new library will span 15,000 square feet and will have a hold room open 24 hours a day where people can pick up their Books. There will also be a technology wall, a large meeting room, a sensory room, and an active child’s room. Brochure printing is often used to inform residents of the many features and amenities of such new facilities.

Accessibility will be the focus of the development, reflected in details ranging from the layout of the bathrooms to the height of the furniture in the library. Jeff Kohler, a Meridian Library District Trustee, said that accessibility will be provided for those that need it. He said, for example, the sensory room will be designed for those with PTSD, ADHD, and autism who need gentle noise features.

Kohler added that Rocky Mountain High School will be within walking distance of the library and a learning lab will be one of the major features of the library. There will be many STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) resources such as 3D printers and other advanced technologies that will attract students coming from the school.

The library is expected to be completed in December of next year.
