The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will be the beneficiary of a cycling fundraiser that will be will held by the firefighters of Meridian this month.
The event is part of a program being held around the world to raise funds for research regarding blood cancer. The International Association of Firefighters Local 4627, located in Meridian, last year raised $2.61m for patient services and blood cancer research, so that the total for this annual event over the 28 years it has been held stands at $17m.
The event will be held at the CycleBar in The Village at Meridian on Saturday, February 9. A donation of $25 or more enables participation in the event. All proceeds of the event go directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Poster printing is often used to promote events like this one and its fundraising efforts.
The Meridian firefighters will also join firefighters from across the United States and around the world next month to ascend the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle as another effort to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Columbia Center is the second highest building west of the Mississippi.
The firefighters will be dressed in their full gear as they climb the stairs as a way to represent the difficult journey of patients with blood cancer.
