Grand Canyon University (GCU) in Meridian has created a new program to help address the need for nurses while also providing students in the Treasure Valley with access to professional healthcare training.
The new program is the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), a16-month course with a hybrid format. Students participate in in-person labs at the new GCU facility and take some courses online. There are three start dates each year and they offer convenience for adult learners who are looking to complete their nursing studies.
GCU has partnered with Saint Alphonsus for the program. Staff from the university say that the partnership is based on professional and educational opportunities. Students participate in clinical rotations and once they complete the program, they are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination and earn their license as a Registered Nurse.
Such programs often benefit from brochure printing to provide more details about courses, labs, clinical work, the application process, and start dates.
Danielle Edwards, Executive Director of Nursing Services at GCU, said there is definitely a need for nursing programs in the area, as well as many people looking to become nurses to help fill that void, so the program should help satisfy both needs.
It is expected that close to 66 nurses will be enrolled in the program this month.
