An additional amount of $4,444,000 is being requested from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) by Norcross to support the Norcross Greenway Project.
This request is required as part of the Transportation Improvement Program of 2022 so that supplemental federal funds can be allocated for construction of projects with a high priority in the Regional Transportation Plan. If the request is approved, the city will be required to provide 20 percent of the approved funding to match that provided by ARC.
The Norcross Greenway Project comprises the construction of a multi-use trail that will run along Cemetery Field Park Access Road, Pinnacle Way, Mitchell Road, and Price Place from Cemetery Drive to Beaver Run Road. It will be a concrete path, 10 feet wide, and connect to trials between these roadways in the city. Local Print shops are often hired to create Flyers and other printed materials showing the plans for such trails.
These additional funds are needed due to increased construction and right of way costs. The increased construction costs are the result of extending the proposed boardwalk by 500 feet to reduce its impact on the wetlands. Maintaining ADA compliance and bicycle requirements have also required more earthwork and grading at the beginning of the trail.
The increased right of way costs have been due to a change in the alignment of Mitchell Road to avoid the impact to a mural wall.
