Norcross receives special funding for improving livability

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is awarding a planning grant from the Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) to the city of Norcross.

Norcross is one of 10 cities in the metropolitan Atlanta area receiving this grant. Announcements about such grants and their potential for improvements in a city can be made known throughout the community with banner printing.

The LCI grant program of ARC is designed to encourage cities in the area to reduce their dependence on motor vehicles and to create more walkable and vibrant places in their communities.

City officials said that the grant is in the amount of $200,000 and will be used to finish an update to the LCI in the Town Center. Craig Newton, mayor of Norcross, expressed his excitement about receiving these funds that can be used to improve the lives of the residents of the city. Newton added that this grant will also enable the city to explore other potential projects that will make the city more pedestrian friendly.

Funds from the grant will enable the city to expand the boundaries of the Town Center LCI such that both sides of Buford Highway are included, and they will help to examine the development of a safe crossing for pedestrians. The pedestrian experience across the railroad tracks will be enhanced and vehicle charging stations will be introduced in the downtown.
