Norcross fiber optic company to expand its facilities

The Carrollton and Norcross facilities of OFS Fitel LLC will be expanded as the company makes an investment of $138.9m, which will create 200 jobs. The company manufacturers optical fiber products.

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. is the parent company of OFS. Last year, it announced that it would double its manufacturing capacity of fiber by 2019, and increase its capacity to manufacture optical fiber cable. One of the main manufacturing facilities of the optical fiber and cable business of Furukawa is located in Norcross.

CEO of OFS and head of the Global Optical Fiber and Cable business of Furukawa Electric, Timothy Murray, commented that there is a greater need for fiber not only in the state, but around the world. This is thanks to the increase in large-scale data centers, fiber to the home, and 5G wireless. In response, Furukawa Electric is expanding and increasing employment in the state to meet the demand.

Charlotte Nash, Chair of the Gwinnett County Commission, added that Japan is the leading company that invests in Georgia, as it most likely reflects the business-friendly climate in the state and its superior workforce.
