The Norcross-based company Galectin Therapeutics has announced the publication of a new paper in the prominent peer-reviewed gastroenterology journal ‘Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics.’
The paper analyses data from a phase two study of liver biopsy material undertaken by the company and examines how a histology model of machine learning can improve the assessment of changes in important outcomes in liver biopsy, beyond what is currently available from such models. This innovative technology enabled the researchers to find over 400 variables related to liver cirrhosis and explored the correlation of these measurements with the degree of hypertension caused by the cirrhosis.

Collaborating on the work were Dr. Mazen Noureddin of the Houston Research Institute and Houston Methodist Hospital, along with Dr. Naga Chalasani from the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
