Guided Therapeutics, Inc., with headquarters in Norcross, recently announced the availability for its new product, LuViva Advanced Cervical Scan, for the Dominican Republic.
LuViva is a diagnostic device that uses light to scan the cervix. Spectroscopy then measures how the light interacts with tissue in the cervix. Unlike other testing methods, a tissue sample, or laboratory analysis is not needed so results can be provided immediately so as to eliminate additional costly and perhaps painful testing.
According to the CEO and President of Guided Therapeutics, Inc., Gene Cartwright, cervical cancer is a major cause of death for the women of Latin America, and so they benefit from the drug which can provide almost immediate results, meaning they can begin immediate treatment right away. The Dominican Republic, in particular, has about 3.3 million women of screening age so it provides significant opportunities for its government to work with the company’s distributor there to expand the sales of LuViva.
The American Association for Cancer Research says that the Caribbean and Latin America have one of the highest mortality and incident rates in the world from cervical cancer. Incidence rates adjusted for age range from 20 to 80 per 100,000 women per year.
