The Gwinnett County child and family-oriented programs of the Georgia Department of Human Services has begun moving to Lawrenceville. Residents of Norcross in need of such services will need to travel to this new and expanded facility.
The building will 100,000 square feet in size and will be the headquarters for 400 employees of the state who will serve over 120,000 families in the County.
The Division of Family and Children Service (DFCS) will initially be moved to the new facility followed by the Gwinnett Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) in the fall. It will consolidate all the offices of the DCSS that have been spread out over three locations.
Bobby Cagle, Director of the Georgia DFCS, commented that this has been logistically problematic as administrators need to be where their employees which in turn depended on the location of the clients. Administrators often had to be shuttled back and forth among the three facilities.
The new building will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the ability of customers to walk in without appointments. Customers will be able to apply for medical and child care assistance, temporary assistance for needy families, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
