The Gwinnett County Public Schools recently announced that a teacher from Norcross High School has been named as a finalist for the Teacher of the Year Award.
Alix Hardy teaches Biology, Chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry at the High School, at which she joined the staff in 2011. She feels that the best compliment comes from students who enter her classes in the fall disliking science and then saying it was their favorite one when they complete it in May.
Ms. Hardy commented that her goal in teaching is to balance rigor with empathy so that she can maintain good relationships with her students.
There are five other finalists in contention for the award and include Emily Heend of Phoenix High School, Felisha Strong of Richards Middle School, Dacula Middle School teacher Jennifer Sevier, Trisha Connor of Harbins Elementary School, and White Oak Elementary School teacher Janelle Draper.
The committee of former Teachers of the Year from the Gwinnett County Public Schools, central office support and local school administrators now has the task to select the final winner.
The Gwinnett Teacher of the Year for 2015-2016 will be announced on November 10 at a banquet at the Infinite Energy Forum beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Duluth.
