Chinese festival lights up Norcross area

A Chinese Lantern Festival and Acrobat Show, Illuminate, is in Lawrenceville this holiday season. This is sufficiently close to Norcross that residents will not want to miss the event.

Illuminate is a maze of lighted sculptures that reach over 20 feet tall. There are three themed exhibits, all of which were custom-designed and handcrafted in Chengdu, China and then shipped to the United States by various means. There is the Forbidden City, where visitors experience the rich culture of Ancient China; Under the Sea for a journey through the belly of a whale; and finally Christmas Village for a holiday light show.

In addition to the lights and walk, there will be performances of the Beijing Acrobats, who will give an authentic showing of traditional Chinese acrobatics. This show takes place in an enclosed tent that seats 500 people with four shows every night.

The Global Pavilion, which is also under a tent, will be offering gifts for purchase from artisan vendors and international food.

Illuminate will take place in the parking lot at the Sugarloaf Mills Mall Wednesdays through Sundays, having begun this week and continuing throughout the rest of November and December.
