Bridge in Duluth receives significant award

The American Public Works Association (APWA) has given the 2024 Project of the Year Award to the Rogers Bridge Project in Duluth.This was given for projects valued between $5 million and $25 million in the Structures category and is just one of many awards which the project has received since it was opened in July of last year.

News of such prestigious awards is often made known throughout a city with poster printing.

The Rogers Bridge Project transformed an existing bridge that was no longer used into a replica truss structure. It was built for horse and buggy traffic in the early 1900s and was closed to closed to one lane of traffic for motor vehicles and removed from the inventory of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in the 1970s.

The city of Duluth recognized that it was important to restore this bridge and collaborated with Fulton and Gwinnet Counties and the city of Johns Creek to work on this project. It is now a pedestrian bridge that connects the two cities and counties and links two parks on either side of the bridge. On the Duluth side the trail to and from the bridge provides access to the Western Gwinnett Pathway.

Collaboration of the federal Highway Administration, the GDOT, and the State Historic Preservation Office enabled the project to be undertaken to rebuild the bridge.
