Duluth is working on providing more affordable housing in the city.

A multi-family development of 36 units is planned for Duluth Highway according to a recent permit application with Gwinnet County. The project is being proposed by Rainbow Village, which is a non-profit organization that looks to support services and provide homes for families with children who are homeless. The site for the development is next to the Rainbow Village complex that already exists.

The site was rezoned by the city earlier in the year for multi-family housing. The new Rainbow Village will have 24 units that will be made available at 50 percent of the median income in the area and six will be available at 30 percent of the median income in the area. The goal of the development is to provide a rental housing option with lower barriers for those who have graduated from the Rainbow transitional housing program.

Axis Infrastructure of Roswell is doing the design, planning, and construction management of the project. The cost for construction of the project is expected to be $5 million. Much of the funding of this project will come from the Gwinnett County Affordable Housing Development Fund which was allocated $18 million for the development of affordable housing.
