Cumming plans a Community Day

The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce has planned a ‘Community Day’, and is inviting the public to attend.

According to a May 31, 2015 news item, the event is a fundraiser to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and is slated to take place at the Cumming Fairgrounds, located in Cumming.

Among the activities on the schedule for the day are live music, a motorcycle stunt performance, face painting, and the North Georgia Quarter Midget Exhibition, which is likely to be the highlight of the day.

“Quarter Midgets” are cars, scaled-down versions of midget racers, built at approximately one-quarter scale. The cars have full suspension, using torsion bars or springs, and shocks. The single-cylinder engines produce between two and one-half and four horsepower.

The privilege of driving one of these little cars is limited to children between the ages of five and sixteen, who race on one-twentieth of a mile tracks at speeds of between 20 and 40 mph. Drivers in the Rookie class usually average 15-20 miles per hour, while more experienced drivers can reach the 40 mph limit.

The event runs from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Fairgrounds, located at 235 Castleberry Road, on June 7. Further information is available from the Chamber.

Organizers might like to work with a banner printing company to create festive streamers to fly outdoors at the various events.
