Cumming County Fair in full swing

The Cumming County Fair opened last Thursday and runs through October 16 at the Cumming Fairgrounds. According to Dave Horton, who is the administrator of the fairgrounds, each day will be slightly different.

Among the performers are Atlanta Rhythm Section, Charlie Daniels, and Lone Star. There are shows for children starring Marvel heroes, and the last two nights of the fair see bull riders taking the spotlight.

Last year, 167,827 people went to the fair, smashing previous attendance records. Horton hopes to break that record this year, and says he thinks it is possible if the weather cooperates, since there's something at the event for everyone.

In addition to the live music, there is a midway with approximately 40 rides, including a number of offerings that are designed just for children, and others that parents and children can ride together. There are also thrill rides for teens and adults, including the Ferris wheel, which carries rides almost 100 feet into the air. Another high ride is a cable system that has cars to carry riders across the fair.

Two important attractions are the Cherokee Indian and Heritage villages, which invite people to explore what life was like for Native Americans.

Events like these can benefit when organizers work with flyer printing companies, who can create handouts that list attractions, vendors, and where to find them.
