The Center for Health & Wellbeing in Winter Park will hold a program in December on how to cope with the holidays while experiencing grief.
Holiday Blues: When Everyone is Celebrating Except Me is a seminar where people can receive advice from a licensed mental health counselor. The program is made for those who have experienced losses or are undergoing major transitions in life. During the event, attendees will learn about how to recognize unworkable expectations, understand how holiday-related memories affect grief, and put strategies together for setting healthy boundaries with friends and family.
The presenter of the program will be Alison C. Issen, the former outpatient counselor at Orlando Health/UF Health Cancer Center. She created the Sage-ing Center program to help those who are at later stages in life find purpose and fulfillment. Issen also developed the Hospice of the Comforter’s Quality of Life Education Program. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Central Florida and has more than 35 years of health and wellness experience.
The counseling program will take place on Thursday, December 15 from 11:00 am to noon. There are no fees to attend Issen’s lesson, though guests may register in advance to reserve a spot. Counselors who offer community programs such as this may use poster printing to make Signs that promote their lessons in the area.
