The Florida Festival of New Musicals has announced its selections for this year.
The festival will take place in June at The Winter Park Playhouse on Orange Avenue. Mr. Gordon Blitch and Dr. Judith Marlowe are presenting sponsors of the event.
The festival highlights new musical works and was created to advance and elevate musical theater, which is an original American art form, by fostering the artistic growth of composers and writers.
The event lasts for four days with six new musical works. Each selected musical will be presented for one hour, read in full, and sung without staging using various professional musicians and actors. Poster printing can be used throughout the city to promote such special festivals.
The six musicals will be:
• Carolina Rising, a country Western musical
• Cheer Wars, the true story of Wanda Holloway and inspired by Henry IV, part 1, by William Shakespeare.
• Foodies, a coming of middle age musical comedy
• Julie Bunny Must Die, a musical about cartoonist Adam Chase
• Promise You'll Shoot Me, a situational comedy about navigating old age.
• In Emily’s Words, an original musical that tells the story of how Emily Brontë wrote “Wuthering Heights.”
The Florida Festival of New Musicals will take place from Thursday, June 20 through Sunday, June 23. Tickets can be purchased from the The Winter Park Playhouse website.
