What's Happening in Winter Park, FL…

Following a growing nationwide trend, Winter Park is holding a workshop where residents can have small items repaired free of charge.

The Winter Park Public Library and the City of Winter Park have initiated a “Don’t Pitch It—Fix It!” event, which is a community repair workshop. The City of Orlando and Orange County are also partners in the effort.

The workshop is being held in support of Winter Park’s Sustainability Action Plan, which hopes to reduce the daily consumption of various products in homes by encouraging residents to repair small items rather than tossing them into the garbage, and eventually, into a landfill. The plan is also designed to encourage recycling, and give residents an opportunity to save money by engaging in trade relationships, rather than continually purchasing replacement items. The event also gives residents a chance to learn important skills from the volunteers, who live in the community.

Among the items that could be traded or repaired are fishing poles, tools, electronics, furniture, bicycles, eye glasses, articles of clothing, and more. The services the volunteers will provide may change without notice. Flyer printing can be used to list the volunteer repair experts and their specialties at events like this.

The workshop will take place at the Winter Park Community Center on West New England Avenue, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm this Saturday, September 7.
