Winter Park schedules popular annual event

A celebration of art and beauty has been taking place in Winter Park since 1979, and is on the schedule again.

Christmas in the Park is the day on which the Morse Museum lights its Tiffany windows, and a concert by the Bach Festival Choir and Brass Ensemble ensues. This is the 42nd year for the event, which the museum's benefactors, Jeannette and Hugh McKean, began in order to share some of Tifany's art with members of the public.

Louis Comfort Tiffany designed the windows as part of a chapel he built for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. After the exposition ended, the chapel was purchased, moved to New York City, and installed in a cathedral basement. Neglected, it began to decline until Tiffany himself moved it to his Long Island estate. When a fire damaged the chapel, it was rescued by the McKeans and it is now part of the Tiffany collection at the Morse Museum.

Christmas in the Park this year is scheduled for December 3, and runs from 6:15 pm until 8:30 pm, though people are welcome to arrive early to watch the window installation. The windows, which are physically moved to the park from the museum, protected by plastic Boxes, are lit at 6:15 pm. The concert is held in Central Park, and concludes around 8:00 pm. The windows remain lit until 8:30 pm. Flyer printing can provide handouts explaining the background of events like this.
