The city of Winter Park has moved into the semi-final round of a competition designed to recognize communities that have worked to reduce their levels of energy consumption.
The Georgetown University Energy Prize is a national competition that challenges cities, communities, and municipalities of between 5,000 and 250,000 residents to lower their consumption of utility produced energy. In total, 50 communities across the country were chosen for the semi-finals, and Winter Park was the only one in Florida to be selected.
The contest recognizes the efforts and cooperation of local government, utilities, residents and other stakeholders in finding ways to lower their use of electricity and other Forms of energy over a period of two years. The goal is to do so in a way that is sustainable into the future and can be replicated in other communities.
The city manager expressed his pleasure that Winter Park has done as well as it has, as he wants it to be one of the best places in the state to work, live, and play – both for now and for future generations.
