There's murder afoot at the Winter Park Playhouse, when the musical comedy Murder for Two opens there next month. The two-person show is a comedy-mystery complete with piano music.
The story tells of the hapless Officer Marcus Moscowicz, a policeman in a small town who hopes to be a detective. He gets his chance to prove himself one night when novelist Arthur Whitney is shot and killed at his birthday bash, giving new meaning to the term ‘surprise party’. Since the closest detective is at least an hour away, Moscowicz jumps in to try and solve the crime, aided by Lou, his silent partner. Marcus does not have much time if he is going to solve the crime and prove himself before the detective arrives.
In the production, one actor plays Marcus while the other plays all 13 suspects. Both play the piano as well, meaning the show sends up the conventions found in both musicals and mysteries.
The Winter Park Playhouse production is slated for May 12-21 and June 1-11. Shows are at 7.30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and there are 2:00 pm matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays, along with additional matinees on selected Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
