Winter Park has partnered with Waste Pro, which handles hazardous household waste, and A1 Assets, Inc., which handles e-waste, to make disposal available to residents.
Hazardous waste that will be accepted are items like antifreeze, pesticides, fertilizers, household chemicals, and many others.
E-waste items that will be accepted include stereos, CD players, DVD players, VCRs, FAX machines, television sets, and computers.
The city asks that people bring a proof of their status as a resident, and that a recent utility bill or their driver's license will be sufficient. All hazardous waste must be in its original container, with the original label. The city will not accept unknown items.
In addition, residents are required to drop off items during the time specified, since the city will not accept anything delivered early or late, and the waste collection is limited to residents, meaning that no contractors may dispose of waste on the day.
The drop-off is scheduled for this Saturday, September 26, from 8:00 am to noon. The location is the Public Works Compound at 1409 Howell Branch Road.
The city might work with a local flyer printing company to create a mailer about the collection day, containing a list of all items that will be accepted, and in particular, emphasizing the hours of the event.
