What's Happening in Winter Park, FL…

Retail property in Winter Park purchased for improving traffic

A retail property on W. Fairbanks Avenue has been agreed upon by the Winter Park commissioners for acquisition. The property spans one acre and has a value of $4 million.

The city is hoping that this purchase will enable it to implement plans to relieve the traffic congestion at the intersection of Denning Drive and Fairbanks Avenue. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, which is just north of Fairbanks Avenue would be expanded and its features enhanced and beautified. Purchase of the property would enable the expansion of Lake Rose for both stormwater improvements and as an amenity to the park.

Randy Knight, manager of the city, said that the plan is also to build a left-turn lane in both directions on Fairbanks Avenue. He said that this will help to relieve traffic at that intersection. He added that Winter Park is land locked and very much built out and with the communities around the city constantly growing Winter Park is vital for travel in and around the area, particularly at that intersection.

Local print shops often help a city provide more information about such projects, their improvements, and their benefits for a city with flyers and other printed materials.

Construction in the area could begin in two to three years although the project is not currently int the five-year plan for the state.
