The actors in the comedy musical have been given the opportunity to get things just right prior to a Broadway run, which has been planned for the fall. The individuals behind the production could use poster printing in Winter Park to improve attendances in Florida. Star Jan Leigh Herndon has told the Orlando Sentinel:
“It’s an interesting journey for a show. You don’t picture it as a Broadway show. It’s very small.”
She has suggested that the theater in Winter Park is ideal for the production. She has stressed that the playhouse is an intimate environment with a cabaret feel.
The musical was performed initially back in 1968. However, it was a nostalgic piece when it was composed, looking back at Broadway productions that had been put on around 30 years before that.
The musical has been said to contain a strong element of pastiche. The lyrics were crafted by Robin Miller and George Haimsohn, while Jim Wise put together the music.
David Thome, an actor in the current show, has explained that the escapism in the musical was not accidental. He has contended that there was a demand for such work during the social changes of the 1960s. Thome has been given the role of a stage director who has some difficulties to cope with.
