Winter Park's Morse Museum is 75 years old, and is celebrating by giving art lovers in central Florida a gift: free admission, which can still be enjoyed for the next few days.
Throughout the month of February, general admission is free, which gives visitors a chance to enjoy works by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Morse Museum has the world's most extensive collection of Tiffany's works.
Tiffany was an artist and designer who is famous for his stained-glass lamps and windows, blown glass, mosaics, enamels, metalwork, ceramics, and jewelry. His father, Charles Lewis Tiffany, was the founder of the famous firm Tiffany & Co. Louis became the company's first design director.
On February 1, the Morse Museum made a new audio tour available, which visitors can access through their cellphones. The audio information will help to enhance the experience by providing history and information about approximately 40 of the objects the Morse has in its Tiffany collection.
Also this month, the Morse has opened an Art Nouveau exhibit, featuring about two dozen objects completed in the Art Nouveau style. Tiffany is known for working in this style, so the two exhibits complement each other. The Morse picked out the Art Nouveau items from its collection, and they include art glass, ceramics, jewelry, and furniture.
