Center for Health & Wellbeing to open in Winter Park

Winter Park's Crosby YMCA is being replaced with the Center for Health & Wellbeing, which offers 80,000 square feet dedicated to helping people remain healthy. The center should open next year, according to an article in the Orlando Sentinel.

The facility's primary owner is also its developer—the Winter Park Health Foundation. The organization's executive vice president, Deb Watson, described the center as a:

“one-stop shop to stay healthy and stay whole.”

The center is not typical of fitness centers in general. It is centered on The Commons, an open area with a conference center for private events as well as educational programs. In addition, the developer has aimed the facility at older adults, who may develop chronic diseases as they age. The Crosby YMCA's members' average age was 63.

Elsewhere around The Commons is a demonstration kitchen, a cafe, and a children's corner. Nearby is the Medical Plaza of Florida Hospital, which offers both specialists and primary care, massage services, acupuncture, rehab, sports medicine, a pharmacy, and a lab.

The Crosby Wellness Center is easily accessed from The Commons. The wellness center has a walking track a mile in length as well as two indoor pools: an activity pool and a lap pool, plus other fitness activities. The center is scheduled to open in February 2019.
