The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach will be hosting a series of events in honor of Black History Month.
There will be events for both adults and children. Libraries can turn to banner printing for the exterior of their buildings to promote such events and activities.
For adults, throughout the month, there will be the “Kigana Heroes,” which is a poster exhibit by Claire Salmon. Representing African American and African men and women who have inspired change in our daily lives, this exhibit will be in the pre-function lobby.
Africa Fine, a professor from Palm Beach State College, will be hosting a Black literature lecture series that will focus on different points in history to show how Black literature had evolved. These talks will be in the Clematis Room on Sunday, February 12 and Saturday, February 25 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Children in grades three through five can join Abasi “Manblack” Hanif, an African percussionist, in a journey through music and basic drumming techniques to delve into the heart and soul of Africa. This will be on Saturday February 18 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the KidSpace.
For children up to the age of five and their families, there will be a special edition of story time that will celebrate Black illustrators and authors. This will be on Wednesday, February 22 from 10:00 to 10:45 am in the Auditorium.
