Keith A. James, mayor of West Palm Beach, has joined the Mayors for Parks Coalition.
Announcements of such developments and their benefits for a community are often made known throughout a city with flyer printing.
City Parks Alliance manages this coalition and is a national bipartisan collation that includes mayors from both small and large cities from across the United States who advocate for more funding from the federal government for urban parks in the country.
Among the programs for which the coalition advocates are the Stateside and Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership programs of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. These programs match grants to expand and create parks, and develop other recreational facilities.
Mayor James expressed his excitement about being part of the collation and working with the City Parks Alliance. He said that many communities of color and low-income communities do not have easy access to recreational opportunities and quality parks, and that many parks need major updates. He added that greenspaces and parks provide benefits for the economy, environment, and health.
Executive Director of City Parks Alliance, Catherine Nagel, said that Mayor James is aware of the important role played by parks in improving the vitality and health of West Palm Beach, and expressed her joy that he was now part of the Mayors for Parks Coalition.
