Thanksgiving weekend saw thousands of residents of West Palm Beach take part in what was billed as South Florida’s largest tailgate party.
The lawn in front of the Meyer Amphitheater was marked with chalk lines as if it were a gridiron and people were invited to set up their lawn chairs, spread out their blankets on the grass, sit back and relax.
Two large screens had been set up at either end of the grass, showing football games for the crowd to enjoy. There was no cost to attend the event, but a limited number of VIP seats were made available at a price of $50 to anyone who wanted to make use of them.
Those who wanted to attend were invited to leave their vehicle, at no charge, in the city’s garages. It was hoped that, along with taking in the games, people would spend some time browsing in the nearby shops and eateries, and a Game Day Merchant Game Card was designed to help encourage this. The cards entitled the bearer to receive a discount at 20 different retailers in the vicinity. Items like these cards can be designed and produced by a printing company.
Those who had the card with them while they were browsing could have them stamped by each merchant, and once they were filled, they were entered into a prize draw for the day.
