The four-day long Fire Grounds Survival program saw instructor Lionel Crowther teach first responders the skills they can put to use when they encounter a situation in which all other techniques have failed and the lives of the firefighters are in jeopardy. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including dense smoke, rooms crowded with furniture, loose wires, or some other obstruction that could keep them from getting out.

The West Palm Beach Fire Rescue is the first in the state to offer its members this training. It paid for through a grant obtained from FEMA. In addition to paying for the program, the funds obtained were used to purchase new air tanks that are more compact that the ones currently in use.
According to Lieutenant Thomas Wesolek, who was one of those who participated in this education, it will give the firefighters the tools they need should they become the ones in need of rescue.
