On Valentine’s Day, West Palm Beach residents had an opportunity to have fun and help a local community service organization at the same time.
‘Slide the City’, a company that sets up a waterslide measuring at close to 1,000 feet, chose the stretch of Clematis Avenue that runs from Sapodilla Avenue to Quadrille Boulevard as the location. The slide opened at 11:00 am and was in operation until the evening. The company expected that as many as 5,000 people might come out to take part, and as the day wore on and the temperature rose, hundreds of people lined up, inner tubes in hand, to try out the slide for themselves.
The firm partnered with the West Palm Beach United Way, which received a portion of the proceeds from the event. A spokesperson for the organization noted that it was a chance to raise both money and awareness about the group. Clematis Street merchants noted that they were also happy at the number of customers they had that day, as many people who lined up to take a run on the slide stopped to make purchases.
West Palm Beach was the first Florida city in which the slide company has appeared. An event like this can help to bring community members together in a spirit of fun while helping out a local cause. A flyer printing company can promote the event and help to boost attendance.
