The commissioners of West Palm Beach have voted to transfer property in the city to the University of Florida.
Dave Kerner, mayor of Palm Beach County, said that the University will now be able to open a graduate campus with programs in engineering, education, and business. Kerner added that this is a great opportunity for the city and the County to have the presence of a preeminent university in the community and all its accompanying benefits. The community can now be kept informed about such projects and their progress through various printing services.
Dr. Kent Fuchs, president of the University of Florida, said that by the fall of next year, the university will lease space to start some of the graduate programs. Fuchs added that this will be a world-class campus in an area that is growing and has an exciting future. Fuchs also said that these graduate programs would be a collaborative effort with other schools in the area such as Palm Beach State College and Florida Atlantic University.
The next step in the process is to discuss recommendations from the board with university officials about the layout of the campus. Following this, the university will need to go through a process of the state university system and board of trusties at the state level.
It is expected that there will be a full opening of the campus by Fall 2026.
