A new fire station has opened in West Palm Beach, and it has already led to an improvement in response times.
The facility, which is located on North Haverhill Road, has only been open for a short period of time, but this has allowed the first responders to reach emergencies in the western portion of the city much more quickly.
Even though the new station only provides service coverage to a relatively small area of West Palm Beach, it answers an average of at least one emergency call a day from MorseLife Health Gladstone, which is a residential care home for older adults. In this situation, each minute shaved off the time it takes to reach the person in trouble means a greater chance of saving their life.
The firefighters shifts run for 24 hours, which means that someone is always available to take a call. The average time in the city that it takes to reach the scene of an emergency is around six minutes, but the new facility has allowed it to drop to about two minutes in the area it serves.
