West Palm Beach nature lovers and those form further afield have been treated to a unique spectacle.
Thousands of sharks have gathered together in schools just off of Palm Beach County’s Coastline. An image of the gathering was captured by Dr. Stephen Kajiura, who is an expert in the field, as part of his efforts to survey black tip shark migration. During this time, the sharks travel from Miami Beach northwards to the body of water known as Jupiter Inlet.
Dr. Kajiura reported to CBS12 that the sight is “awe inspiring”. He noted that there are tens of thousands of these predatory fish gathered together in very close proximity to one another. An event such as this can prove to be a big draw to eco-tourists and those who are interested in marine biology. Since it is not often that an opportunity to see this many sharks presents itself, Brochures can be used to promote this natural event, and also provide information about how those who wish to see it for themselves can do so in such a way that they do not have a negative impact on these wild animals.
It is not known right now why the migration pattern occurs and why they spend so much time in the waters off of Palm Beach County, and Dr. Kajiura noted that he hopes his research will begin to provide some answers to this and other questions related to the sharks.
