The Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County are currently distributing a week’s worth of groceries to 1,100 family members of the club, and 31,000 meals a week to all children under the age of 18 every week. Residents in need in West Palm Beach are among those receiving the handouts.
President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, Jaene Miranda, expressed pride in the staff and their ability to find new ways to care for club families and their children during this time. Miranda added that the Club has been able to transition from its regular daily activities to becoming a major distributor of food in the County.
The Club has partnered with the Palm Beach County Food Bank and the Juvenile Transition Center and new partners Living Hungry and Fresh RX Kids to enable it to expand its operations. Many of the groceries the Club provides include fresh produce purchased from farmers in the area in order to keep them working, as well as dry goods, protein, and other necessities. Printing services can be used to create lists of available produce, canned goods, and other items distributed.
The Club is continuing its other services with the new Belle Glade Teen Center currently under construction and nearing completion. The cost of the Center is $15m.
